Northern Virginia Movers Packing Fine Arts

Finally you have decided to move! It’s a big decision as moving can drain you with incessant planning in advance and it is not just about solely packing your furniture. A house has some fine pieces of art works too that are hanged to the ceilings. Sometimes, certain lessons are learnt the hard way as you plan for the big move because in spite of the best efforts, not every piece arrive safely. Take some time out and read the following article that entails tips for a smarter move. Thus, for packing picture frames and mirrors, you should be having the right packing supplies at your disposal so that you can protect them from damage during the transit –

  • Boxes

Cardboard boxes are inexpensive and provide extensive shielding to the artwork in transit. It is advisable that you use telescoping picture boxes that can fit in a frame in a single box. However, if the work is larger than this box, you can slide two boxes and make a larger box. If you want to shield still larger art piece, combine four boxes together and make an even larger box.

  • Palette Tape & Wrap

Before putting the frame in a box, cover the frame with this plastic wrap that will act as a protective skin. Its main function is to wrap boxes on shipping palettes.

  • Packing Tape

Do NOT compromise on buying a quality packing tape because often what happens is that once you unload the package only to see the art work literally falling out of the box because the tape fails to hold. Also, if you buy cheap tape, you will end up using more to secure your boxes and will not get the result as desired.

  • “FRAGILE” Stickers

Once your packing is complete, it is highly recommended that you paste “Fragile” stickers on the box. The professional movers in Northern Virginia will know that the thing inside the box contain some vulnerable items liable to break and so they will handle it carefully.

Caution that needs to be taken while packing the picture frames and mirrors –

  1. Shield the Glass

To prevent the glass from shifting while you are on the move, ensure that you have taped completely across both the glass as well as the frame. Under certain circumstances, if the glass breaks, the tape will keep it in one place.  Don’t worry about the scratch as the tape will come off easily.

  1. Don’t Neglect the Corners

Corners are often neglected while you pack your frames (or mirrors). It is highly advisable that you use extra padding to the corners because you can prevent them from cracking or chipping during the move. You can simply wrap the corners either with an extra layer of bubble wrap or foam.

  1. Bubble Wrap

For packing glass frames, bubble wrap will be your best friend! As per the shape of the painting, wrap the paintings either vertically or horizontally or both in a thick layer of bubble wrap. Finally, secure the edges of the wrap with a masking tape. Please note that if the painting has a soft surface or is oil based, bubble wrap is not recommended because it can cause small depressions on the painting.

  1. Multiple Frames in One Box

Yes! You can easily place multiple frames in a box, but you need to make sure that each one is individually wrapped with enough cushioning and no surface is left between the frames. For cushioning purposes, stuff some packing paper in the sides and corner of it.
